I’ve watched a few movies there–all over the map, from The Last Picture Show to Deliverance. Movies I’ve missed are Woody Allen’s Interiors and Orson Welles’s Touch of Evil. I can’t always make the mid-evening Friday or Saturday screenings, but the presence of this set is reassuring. They don’t show English-language movies every week, but once in a while, Bam-o! and you get a wonderful movie you had no idea existed.

This is not a plush cinematic experience, mind you. Plastic chairs. No refreshments. The screen is not large, though there is not a bad seat to be had there. The host clearly loves his movies. He’s an older guy with a white Tolstoyan beard and introduces the movie in Spanish at some length before fumbling with his computer/projector arrangement and, after a time, starting the evening’s film. The audience’s patience is amply rewarded. The guy has excellent taste.

I’ve seen a few famous first-run movies on a larger screen with an audience: Jaws, Titanic, Saving Private Ryan, among others. Hell, I even saw Casablanca in a theater in Minneapolis in 1992. There’s nothing like sharing a great movie with strangers.
